5 Ways to Monitor Your Fitness Progress
When we say about tracking your weight loss progress, the first thing that comes to your mind would be a weight scale. After all, it is the easiest method of determining whether you have shed some pounds or not. Most people dread weighing on the scale because they fear being frustrated upon realizing that they have not lost weight.
If you are one of such people, you should know that the weight you see on the scale is just a number. A weight scale cannot tell you how much muscles you’ve gained and how much fat you have lost. Therefore, do not be enslaved by the weight scale. Below are far better ways to monitor your fitness progress.
Listen to Your Body
Many people do not bother to listen to what their bodies are telling them, but doing so is a crucial step in the weight loss journey. Your body actually gives off indicators on whether you are improving or deteriorating. Answer these questions as you assess your health and well-being:
- — Are you more energetic than before?
- — Can you do things that you could not do before?
- — Are you sleeping better?
- — Have you stopped craving for unhealthy foods?
If your answer to all these questions is yes, your progress is on track. You are becoming fitter because your body is showing signs of improvement.
Do You Still Idolize Food?
Most people reward themselves with food. To celebrate something, they have to include food. However, as you become fitter, food becomes less appealing to you. Instead of hitting a food or coffee shop to reward yourself, you start opting for non-food rewards such as going on a shopping spree, a spa treatment, or even traveling. In other words, if your attention has shifted from food and you can easily control your portions, you are fitter than before.
A lot of people take selfies nowadays, so why not use them to track your fitness progress? A picture or a mirror can be your weight loss buddy too. Taking before and after pictures can help you track your weight loss progress. You may not be able to lose weight on a scale, but a selfie will show you whether your body has become firmer and stronger.
Do you notice that you have become slimmer and that you are developing muscles? Do you see curves that you could not see before? Great! That boosts your self-confidence.
Do You Have To Change Your Wardrobe?
As you slim down, you begin to fit in clothes that you did not before. This gives you a confidence boost since you can now wear sexier and fitting apparel, and you no longer have to dress from head to toe. If you feel that you can now flaunt some skin for everyone to see, you’ve made some progress.
You Have Found a New Purpose
What is the reason behind your desire to lose weight? Most probably, it is to look more appealing. However, as you progress with your weight loss journey, you begin to realize that there is more to losing weight than just looking sexy—you shift your focus from looks to health. That is a sign of progress.
