How to Strengthen Your Nervous System
Every person has at least once in their lifetime wondered about what they could do to strengthen their nervous system. But before you can do that, first, you need to understand what a nervous system is, what it’s made up of and how it works. The nervous system is in charge of regulating all the functions in a human body by working both in their preparation and execution. Through neurons, it receives the sensory stimulation that you get on a daily basis and transports all of the information to your body, helping it to carry out its functions normally. Therefore, it is obvious that it’s a very important part of your body, so strengthening it and making sure it’s healthy should be a priority.
Here’s how to strengthen your nervous system.
First of all, make sure your immune system is strong with a healthy diet. The immune system is what keeps your body healthy and when your body’s healthy, so is your nervous system. When you have a balanced diet, it’s easy to keep yourself healthy, but you need to make sure that you’re eating these foods regularly.
Essential fatty acids
These are necessary for normal body functions but since your body can’t synthesize them, you have to make sure to get enough through your diet. The foods that are rich in fatty acids are avocados, almonds, salmon, olive oil, Brussel sprouts, and broccoli, just to name a few.
Calcium
Apart from strengthening your nervous system, calcium also strengthens your bones and as a result, it prevents osteoporosis. For women, it also plays a big role in regulating PMS and menopause. The foods that are rich in calcium are dairy, vegetables, almonds, sardines, eggs, and tuna.
Vitamin B or B vitamins complex
B vitamins complex consists of 8 types of vitamin B that improve your metabolism, and that is highly important for the nervous system. Foods in which you can find vitamins B are shellfish, parsley, yeast, vegetables like mushroom, carrots, and spinach; cereals, meat, egg yolk, and cheese.
Avoid toxic habits
Habits such as drinking alcohol and smoking tobacco are highly toxic to your health since they encourage the development of such diseases as hypertension, type 2 diabetes, heart diseases, lung diseases, and cancer. By avoiding consumption of these toxic substances, you are contributing to the strengthening of your mind.
Get enough exercise
Regular exercise is vital for the strength of your nervous system. Moreover, by exercising, your brain releases endorphins that free you from stress, which can have a bad affect your mental health. The best exercise to release stress is yoga, but you can practice any exercise or sport that works best for you. Try exercising at least 30 minutes three or four times a week, but the best thing to do is to exercise every day.
Drink a lot of tea
Many people can’t imagine starting the day without that first cup of coffee. Although caffeine is a great energizer, it can have negative consequences to your nervous system in the long run. Luckily, there is a way to start your day without drinking caffeine and that’s to exchange that cup of coffee for a nice cup of tea. The best teas for your nervous system are rosemary, chamomile, ginger, eucalyptus, lemon, and green tea.
Get enough sun
Overexposure to the sun’s rays can be toxic, but in a small amount, the sun is your best friend. It helps prevent breast cancers, fights skin diseases, reduces your cholesterol levels, improves your immune system and improves the health of your neurons.
Be artistic
By doing artistic activities, you not only increase your mood but also strengthen your nervous system because the neurons are obliged to be active in different parts of your brain. This happens when you draw, paint, read, do crafts, play chess, play an instrument, learn a new language or do Sudoku. Just find an activity that’s fun for you, that you enjoy doing and practice it daily.
So, the bottom line is that it’s vital for you to take care of your nervous system. As we’ve already said, the health of your nervous system is the most important for your overall health and you should keep healthy routines to optimize the functions of your nervous system and also prevent diseases.
