 Sitting down Too Much

Spending a lot of time on the couch is not beneficial for your heart. You are twice as likely to develop heart conditions compared to people who are active. The lack of exercise can be harmful to your heart in various ways. It can lead to the development of high blood pressure and high unhealthy cholesterol levels. You don’t need to go out for a workout, but you need to get away from the couch and keep moving throughout the day. You can indulge in this habit even when you are working in your office.

 Overlooking Signs of Danger

Don’t try to convince yourself that the slight discomfort in your chest is just heartburn. You may very well be right, but it could also be a sign of the development of a heart problem.  Worse still, a heart attack. Missing an opportunity to protect yourself in these conditions is not recommended. Contact 911 immediately if you are suffering from chest pain or discomfort, breathlessness, tiredness, and pain in one or both the arms, back, shoulders, neck or the jaw.

 Ignoring Appointments With Your Doctor

You will not receive any intimations from your heart about whether it is doing fine or not. Some tests have to be conducted by your doctor regularly. You could be feeling fine, but you can only be sure that you are safe after your doctor has confirmed the information. If you have been ignoring the appointments, it is advisable to schedule one right away. This applies even if you don’t have a family history of heart problems.

 Entertaining Stress

The stress you are feeling could be coming from the extra pounds on your body and the mental pressure from your work. Over a period of time, both of these factors can affect the body. You should have a discussion with your doctor and get advice on how you can lose some of the extra pounds. You must understand that a small change can have a major impact. In fact, a 10% reduction in your weight can lower the risks of heart disease. You should also get information about stress management skills because it will be extremely beneficial for your condition.

 Smoking Regularly

Smoking is bad for your lungs, but it is bad for your heart as well because cigarettes and your heart are not made for each other. You are twice as likely to have a heart attack than a person who does not smoke simply because you are a regular smoker. A number of chemicals in cigarette smoke get into the bloodstream and damage the arteries. Therefore, you should do everything possible to kick the habit regardless of how long you have been smoking. That way, you will cut the risks of heart attack.
