Celebrities are known to have one of the most difficult jobs in the world but many people don’t realize this because of the glitz and the gland together with the fame and fortune. Celebrities are public figures, which means they don’t get to actually live a normal life. They can’t just go somewhere without security, they can’t just post anything on their social media accounts without getting noticed.
Every single thing they say and do will make the headlines, especially if it is something negative and if it has something to do with their fans or followers that put them on the trends on social media. Not all of their followers are fans, some celebrities actually suffer from having haters. These are the people who basically find everything negative to almost every celebrity. One of those celebrities who seem to have haters on her social media is the Modern Family star, Sarah Hyland who has been criticized by her “moon face”.
SARAH HYLAND’S MOON FACE
When people talk about other people having moon faces, it seems like they are just insulting them for having such rounded flat face just like the moon. However, there is actually an abnormality behind it. Young Hollywood actress, Sarah Hyland, is one of those people who has had to endure their side effects of prednisone. This is because of her having a condition called kidney dysplasia, which causes the person’s kidney to actually have an abnormal development even after undergoing a kidney transplant, which in Hyland’s case, she actually did in 2012.

Which is why she is now sharing the information with her fans since people noticed how her face is looking like a moon face once it is swelling up. It is not exactly the kidney transplant that has done it, but it was actually the drug that she has to take regularly which is the prednisone. Hyland is not the only one who is suffering from this side effect, in fact, a lot of people from all over the world are having moon faces as a side effect.
This is one of the reasons why she felt the need to share a skin-care routine on her Instagram story. Hyland began to show her fans what kind of facial serum she had to use and used it with a facial roller. She then had to explain as to why exactly her face turned like that and it was definitely because of we regular intake of prednisone.
WHAT IS PREDNISONE AND WHY DOES IT AFFECT THE FACE
According to a professor of pharmacology and toxicology and the director of the neuroscience program at Michigan State University, Dr. James Galligan explains that prednisone is most often used as an anti-inflammatory drug at is suppresses the immune system. It is known to be a synthetic steroid hormone that actually mimics all the actions of cortisol which is a hormone that the human body naturally produces. He also explained how people who undergo kidney transplant has to take this drug in order for them to be able to prevent their transplanted kidney from actually being rejected by the body’s immune system. Galligan also said that it has massive side effects and most of them are serious.
Another expert from Baltimore’s Mercy Medical Center, Dr. Lynn M. Ludmer who is a rheumatologist said that when doctors use prednisone, they are always making plans to get the patient off of it, eventually using the minimal amount.
She said that it may be prescribed for different medical conditions such asthma, Lupus, arthritis, and even severe allergic reactions. However, one of the most common side effects of it is by having a moon face or an extreme swelling of the face. Ludmer explained that in addition to swollen cheeks, there is also the “buffalo hump”, which is the swelling at the base of the neck.
