How To Use Acupressure For Losing Weight

The technique of using alternative medicine in conjunction with acupuncture is what you can call acupressure. During acupressure treatment, the practitioner applies physical pressure on trigger points or acupuncture points. The practitioner applied pressure by hands, elbow, or different devices. The aim is to clear the blockages in these areas. The technique of acupressure promotes weight loss.
The entire process involves stimulating specific points on the human body that release pressure from the digestive system. There hasn’t been much concrete evidence to prove the effectiveness of acupressure in weight loss. However, studies suggest that acupressure can complement regular exercises and a healthy diet to lose weight. Check out the details of how to use acupressure for losing weight.
Applying Pressure on the Acupressure Points on the Ear
Use your thumb to apply pressure on the front of the triangular flap of tissue in front of both your ears. The thumb covers the maximum area compared to other fingers, and hence it is used to affect all three major points. If you want to find another pressure point, place your finger at a point that experiences the maximum movement of your jaw when you open and shut your mouth. Apply pressure on that point.
To control your hunger and boost digestion, you can apply constant pressure with medium force. You can apply pressure on the ear points in case you want to use a single point. The ear points are the only area of your body where you can find three or more three acupressure points together, applying pressure on which can help you control your hunger and appetite. The points located around the ear are called GB2, TW21, and SI19. Studies for weight loss have been carried out the most on these three points.
Try Different Pressure Points
If you are not feeling comfortable or not getting the desired results, stop the process then and there. There is no need to overdo it. The response to acupressure is different from one person to another. If you are comfortable with this, apply pressure on the acupressure points till you reach your ideal weight. Post that, you can use the acupressure points to maintain the body weight. Research suggests that this type of acupressure has little to no side effects on the patients.
An Anti-inflammatory Diet is Essential
Extra weight causes an inflammatory condition. Foods that can help you in your weight loss are called anti-inflammatory foods. To follow an anti-inflammatory diet, add organic foods to your platter. Organic foods don’t contain harmful chemicals or pesticides that can increase the risk of inflammation.
If you have been eating pre-packaged or processed foods, limit the amount. Opt for whole, unprocessed foods. Whole foods contain vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients. Eat brown rice, whole-grain bread, and whole-grain pasta. Additives and preservatives used in these foods can cause inflammation if they are sensitive to them.
Add More Fruits and Vegetables to Your Diet
Make sure that two-thirds of your food should have whole grains, fruits, and green vegetables. Fruits and veggies are high in antioxidants which decrease inflammation. Fresh products are always best for you. However, you can also consume frozen fruits and vegetables if you cannot find fresh produce. Including oranges, plums, apples, blueberries, raspberries, leafy greens, bell peppers, winter and summer squash, etc., to your diet will help. In other words, have a fresh, colorful meal with lots of fruits and vegetables every day. And make it a point to avoid creamy sauces and fruits that have sugar or heavy syrup.
Consume More Fiber
Having fiber in the range of 20 to 35 grams daily is highly recommended. Oats, millet, brown rice, fruits which you can consume with their peel, leafy greens such as spinach, mustard, broccoli, carrots, beets, peas, and lentils, are rich in fiber. Besides that, you can also include all types of beans, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, sesame, almonds, walnuts, pistachio nuts, etc., to increase your fiber intake.
Aside from these, it is important to exercise regularly to achieve weight loss goals. Remember, eating less, eating good food, and working out is the most effective way to lose body weight and prevent weight gain later. If your weight loss challenges persist, don’t forget to discuss them with your acupuncture professional and physician.
